Ever find yourself doing something you promised yourself you'd never do again or find yourself drawn to something you've tried to stay away from? Ever set a goal you just couldn't seem to reach? No matter how hard you try it's this neverending story of trial and error. It gets so discouraging to realize you're not as strong, persevering or as self controlled as you hoped to be...
Truth is we can't successfully overcome personal/physical obstacles or reach goals without some planning and bit of help. We all need something, someone to confide in, encourage or chatise us to keep us on track, a list to check off so we can see progress, a guidebook or some other tool to get the basics down , to get us jumpstarted and to keep us going. Something or someone to hold us accountable for the task we've set to carry out.
What does it mean to be accountable? Furthermore, why do I have an ever growing desire to connect with someone on a personal level. so personal is means stating my faults, verbalizing my shortcomings, letting someone beyond the walls I build to protect and hide my true self. Wanting someone to hold me accountable to my goals, sins, ect.? Surely, I must be crazy. Right?
Accountabillity, defined, is the quality or state of being accountable; an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions. (Webster Dictionary)
For my personal endeavor, i've gone to the Bible and have found the following verses on having someone, on the same spiritual/ real life "playing field" as you are, who will sincerely and continually pray for you and your success, who won't offer counsel but will instead ask you questions, the hard questions and in reponse real, sincere, hard truth answers are given so that you stay on track. The best part...it's a two way street. You do for them what they do for you, In doing so you both help eachother to succeed. You are doing real life together, somedays may be filled with one sided conversations as not all our goals, problems are the same. Still there's a mutual gain to be had: true relationship, encouragment, and eventual success.
James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.
Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves you all the time, and a brother helps in time of trouble.
So, I am praying for a such a person to enter my life. I want to experience God truly working in my life and in the lives of those around me, I want to change the way I live my life, I want to live honestly and be truthful in all I do. I want to know I'm not alone in my journey and that I do have the tools, God and friend who can help me thru my obstacles, I want to be the person God wants me to be, doing the things God wants me to do and I want someone also to do accomplish the same.
Father, guide me and lead me today. Help me find a partner to hold me accountable. The plan you have laid out for me is a perfect plan. Help me to fully grasp and live by your plan for me. Father thank you for Your Son Jesus, Who gives us the perfect example for our lives. In HIS name we pray, Amen. (This is my prayer for you too, my friend, wherever you are...)
